Enhancing Communities Through Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
At FUCIS, inclusion isn’t a program, it’s our foundation. Our participants train, learn, and alongside a wide range of community partners, where their individual strengths, identities, and contributions are recognized, respected, and celebrated. Every person who walks through our doors adds to the richness of our community, and we are committed to building a program where every voice belongs.
The Community Is Our Classroom.
The community is where life happens — and where our participants learn best. Through community-based instruction, volunteerism, vocational training experiences, and travel training using public transportation, participants build the practical skills, social confidence, and independence to move through their communities with purpose.
Remote Learning
For participants whose goals, schedules, or preferences are best served through virtual programming, FUCIS provides high-quality remote learning experiences. Remote services are delivered with the same person-centered approach and Career Support Staff presence as our in-person offerings, giving participants flexibility without compromising connection.
Job Readiness Training
We prepare participants for the workplace through targeted instruction in workplace behavior, professional communication, time management, resume building, and interview practice. Working one-on-one with their Career Support Staff, each participant builds the confidence and soft skills employers expect — before stepping into a job site.
Vocational Training
Through situational assessments and hands-on training at community-based sites, participants explore career interests and develop the specific skills the work requires. Training is matched to each participant’s goals and personal pathway — whether that leads to a paid internship, volunteer placement, or further training in a field they love.
Tailored Day Services (TDS)
For participants whose goals don’t fit a traditional group model, FUCIS offers customized one-on-one service designs. TDS supports individuals pursuing post-secondary education, paid internships at specific employers, entrepreneurial pathways, remote-only programming, or other individualized community access goals — all guided by their own person-centered plan.
Post-Secondary Education Support
FUCIS supports participants pursuing higher education by helping them navigate the systems that make college possible — including DSPS (Disabled Students Programs and Services), financial aid, enrollment, course selection, and on-campus resources. We believe every participant who wants to learn deserves a team that helps them get there.
Paid Internship Program (PIP)
Through the Paid Internship Program — funded by the California Department of Developmental Services and administered by the regional centers — FUCIS participants gain real-world, paid experience across a variety of internship models. PIP gives participants the chance to discover what they love, build a meaningful track record, and explore where their interests can take them next.
Volunteerism
Participants engage with local community organizations in volunteer roles that match their interests, abilities, and goals. Volunteering builds professional confidence, opens doors to new interests and career pathways, and reminds every participant that they have something valuable to give to their community.
